BBL surgery offers a way to enhance the size and shape of the buttocks for patients who want a more attractive-looking backside and for patients who want to balance the proportions of their figure.
The buttocks are a difficult area of the body to shape through exercise, but the shape and size of the buttocks has significant influence on the aesthetics of the torso.
Round buttocks can make the waist and thighs appear smaller, bring the upper torso into a more pleasing proportion, and convey a youthful appearance in general.
The Brazilian Butt Lift is a relatively new procedure designed to improve the contours of the buttocks and is a type of buttocks augmentation that results in a more youthful and perky derrière. The procedure can be customized for each patient to improve the size, shape, and profile of the buttocks.
The procedure involves removing fat from one or more areas of the body through a specialized liposuction technique, harvesting fat cells from an area of the body with an abundant amount of fat, like the back or stomach, purifying the live fat cells, and re-injecting the cells back into the buttocks so the butt appears lifted with a new shape.
The procedure has a much smaller risk of infection compared to a buttocks implant and has the added benefit of creating a leaner profile from the areas that the fat was originally harvested from.
Most candidates have enough fat for a successful fat transfer. For people with a thin body, this could be a challenge, they would need to gain weight to generate enough fat. Many patients use this opportunity to request the removal of all possible excess fat to obtain the hourglass figure look. The amount of fat that a surgeon can remove for liposuction is limited to 5 liters.
It’s extremely important that you fill out your paperwork correctly regarding any medications or supplements you take as they might interfere with the smoothness and safety of your surgery. Also, if you’re a smoker, you should stop smoking at least 15 days prior to your procedure.
You will have liposuction on a few areas of your body. The procedure takes about 1.5 – 2 hours and you can go home on the same day. Following surgery, you will wear a special surgical garment for one to two weeks for comfort and to minimize swelling. You will need to sleep on your stomach or sides for several days while the buttocks heal. During the day, you are encouraged to stand, walk and limit sitting for short periods of time while the fat heals. Most people can return to work in 1-2 weeks, provided you do only a minimum amount of sitting. You can resume progressive exercise after 2 weeks, gradually getting back to the preoperative level after about 6 weeks. However, you should be able to resume all normal activities at 4 weeks post op. Because the donor cells come from the patient’s own body, fat injection enhancement carries no risk of the body rejecting the implanted fat cells.
Sitting down may be slightly uncomfortable for a few weeks after your treatment, but this can be remedied by a special cushion that the doctor will suggest for you. You will wear a compression garment, which can help to minimize swelling and keep your new, improved rear end contours intact.
You will see results right away and the final result will be visible after about 3 months after all the swelling has subsided.
The Brazilian butt lift is done by a process called fat grafting. The use of fat grafting has revolutionized butt implant surgery. Compared to buttock implants, it is safer and requires less operative time (just 90 minutes). It has less pain and discomfort post-operatively than gluteal implants, and requires minimal recuperation. An additional benefit is that in removing fat from the donor sites to be used for the grafting, such as the abdomen, the patient also benefits from a liposuction to the donor site. An implant procedure will carry with it greater risks, longer downtimes and of course scarring.
The body can absorb anywhere from 20% to 95% of the transferred fat. This means that the surgeon will transfer more fat than is actually wanted to compensate for that which will be reabsorbed. That said, fat transfers tend to last longer than other fillers, with results reportedly lasting for years instead of months. Improvements in your rear end contours can last for years. It just depends on different factors such as weight gain or weight loss and/or the aging process.
